I gazed at a glassy-looking screen, and attempted to figure out precisely what I was seeing on Terminator 2.
4k
Hopeful.
If no one had advised me that I was viewing a 4k disc, my presumption would have been DVD, with my gear doing what it could to up-rez.
Decidedly DVD resolution. Not even hitting Blu-ray spec.
But the image is beautifully clean, grain-free, and overall very pleasing for what it appears to be.
A truly gorgeous DVD, which in 4k, gains HDR.
No reason for it to exist.
Just noted that this is my second review of the same disc, as I just received, what I hoped would be an upgrade.

Mark this as one more message to those technicians who terminated Terminator 2 and the potentials of 4K.
This transfer gives double-dipping a bad, bad name.
The judgement day for this disc and transfer has arrived;
and "hasta la vista" is its verdict.

T2 has been around the block so many times that the term "double-dipping" no longer applies. I wonder if we will EVER see a release of this film that meets expectations. History says otherwise, unfortunately.

Yeah I wouldn't worry, the umpteenth dip is surely not far away. It will fix some of the problems with this release while introducing all new problems.

It is. Lionsgate sent me a press solicit about the limited "plastic arm" edition, and that shocked me - seemed unlikely they'd actually send out the expensive "plastic arm" for review!

And I was right to be skeptical, as they just sent the same stupid 4K from last year with no plastic arm!

They should have released the 3D version. Maybe that would be more fun. Though from what I've read, the reviews for the 3D version are not much better.

@Robert Harris, do you know if Lightstorm did the Digital Noise Reductionon directly on their remastering work (before color grading) or way after that only in the 3D convertion?
On "Titanic" they did a perfectly new 4K transfer and then they moved to 3D convertion and made the Digital Noise Reduction, so the 2D Blu-ray use the untainted 4K transfer and contains filmgrain.

What a damn disappointment. Cameron is reaching Lucas levels of revisionism. The sad thing is, this is probably the best we’ll get for the foreseeable future. And don’t even get me started on T1 not having the mono.
