A Scorsese film on HD DVD is always a cause for celebration, and Casino from Universal makes the transition from film to perfection.

A great film and a great full-featured HD disc that leaves nothing to be desired.

Another very short piece as nothing more needs to be said.

This is a film to be added to one's HD library.

Extremely Highly Recommended.

Well these movies have been talked about to death. I think its just a quick mention about whether the HD is worth upgrading or not. Alot of these upgrades previously had 2 review threads(original and rerelease) in the software sections.

I watched it tonight and thing it looks great. The color of the Las Vegas interiors and landscape look really great. This was always a great looking movie - Colors are vibrant,you can see every pinstrip on DeNiros suits, the Scorsese glow - great looking HD disc.One of my favorites so far as the cinematography is so amazing. Like the music # in Corpse Bride,in the opening credit sequence the colors popped right off the screen.

BTW there is the occasional speck but I only saw them becuase I was looking

I loaned my SD to someone awhile back, which I never do and of course it wasnt given back to me, so this was a nobrainer for $24

It's Robert Harris's signature opinion piece, basically. He's a very well respected archivist in the industry and member of the HTF. He's supervised the restorations of classic films, so, basically, if he says something's good, you believe it.

Well I added a question to the thread which hasn't really been answered yet. If you like to me to start a seperate thread the nI will happily do so but I just wanted to find out why. I have read his other articles here and still see nothing in terms or quality. He is basically just saying what is known at this point, the studios are sending out their big films and they are looking nice in HD, can I get a trademark on that?

Meanwhile, Mr. Harris is an industry luminary who gets more films faster than even our official reviewers, he rocks out a quick heads up on quality and then the official reviewers take the movies they get into more depth once they have a had a chance to let things fully digest. Seems like a winning combination to me, tho I've got reason to be biased!

I do not review.

When I see a piece of software that is properly representative of the original, I make it known. We've been getting some extraordinary software in the past few months via both SD and both HD formats, due mostly to the
need for re-mastering, new film elements for older titles, and digital cleanup.

Certain other major titles, on which six figures was spent for mastering in HD in the recent past, have been pulled from schedules for any number of reasons... anywhere from simply not being up to snuff or having been produced in 1080i, although several of those snuck through early on.

My focus is to get as much information out into the field as quickly as possible to illuminate those titles worth upgrading or taking notice. I attempt very hard not to attack releases, and generally remain mute if there are major problems.

In shorthand, this means that if a major HD (or SD) title is being released, and I've not commented on it, there may be problems, and further research may be helpful before dollars exchange hands.

Full-blown reviews are left to the irrepressible review staff, as I have neither the time nor inclination to go there.

Casino Anniversary Edition looked fantastic on SD DVD (when I finally got one that would play ). One of the best transfers I saw on my setup. I can't imagine the HD DVD looks anything but stunning.

These Robert Harris postings I always look forward to.

This is a movie I was a little bit disapointed with on the first viewing, back in 1995. I guess having been high on Goodfellas for years, this film it let me down. On subsequent viewings it grew on me - sort of like Jackie Brown did after Pulp Fiction. This is a no-brainer purchase for me.

I already have GoodFellas so I definitely need to pick up Casino after the holidays. I'm sure it will look AMAZING in HD.

I have just finished my viewing of the film on HD-DVD and I promise you will not be disappointed by the quality of the release. PQ was very good thoughtout the entire nearly 3hours of film, and the SQ was very good.

While this is not another Goodfellas, I believe it stands on it's own as a fine movie, if not great, and is always interesting throughout. Have fun watching.
