Casino is a terrific movie.

And it contains all of the visceral materials that make up the great Martin Scorsese films, inclusive of that certain dynamism.

I'm thinking that Universal has ported over the same master used for the HD, as although this is a quality disc, it seems to have a bit of an electronic feel to it.
I mention this only for the record, and not to put anyone off purchasing this disc, as I'm not seeing it as a problem.

Other than that, the color, densities and audio (which is lossless) are superb.

We need more Scorsese on Blu-ray.

Recommended.

Xylon, don't rub it in.

This venture into Scorseseland is far, far above the last quality-wise, which was impermissible.

Casino plays fine even on a large screen.

Still many projects yet to come to Blu.

I very much doubt it. There's no question it will be from the same transfer, and in that case the only thing they could improve on is compression, and I don't think the HD DVD was particularly bad in that respect. Doesn't look like there are any significant new extras either.

Possibly a bit better throughput, but if you already own the HD, you may wish to stay with it unless you are consolidating to Blu. A rebate from Universal for those who purchased the HD might make this a bit more palatable.

Damn, I was just about to pre-order this.

But then again, knowing RAH's history of botched statements I'll let my eyes decide.

When I used to have HD DVD, I too noticed the transfer had a slightly digital or "electronic" type look to it; I mean the detail was good and film grain was even visible, but it just didn't quite have the natural, more analog look that we often see with Blu-ray titles. Still, this is one of my favorite films and will definitely be picking it up --- and will be a big improvement over the DVD.

As far as Scorsese on BD goes, I'm hoping Disney revisits Kundun soon with a new transfer. I never picked up the non-anamorphic DVD that is 10 years old, and as far as Scorsese films go, it's a personal favorite.

I already own GoodFellas, The Aviator, and The Departed. I'll pick up Casino soon, too. Hopefully MGM sees fit to release Raging Bull soon, and we know that Sony is prepping Taxi Driver. Hopefully The Age of Innocence is not too far off from Sony, either.

Not going to upgrade my HD-DVD even though this is a great movie.

I would caution anyone who is thinking of getting this that the extreme violence in 1080P is very disturbing even when you know its coming having seen the movie a lot I felt sick on certain scenes as HD brings it all to life all too vividly.

I have Casino on HD-DVD and will definitely go Blu and dump the HD-DVD on release date. As long as Marty is so well represented on Blu-ray, I would surely love to see "The Color of Money," which never even received an anamorphic transfer on DVD.

For the record: we have removed Thivanka R. Perera from this forum, not because of childish statements like in the post above, but because of a totally uncalled for tasteless attack on film critic Roger Ebert (in another thread).

And we're not tolerating "jokes" about someone's serious illness.

Casino is on sale for only fifteen bucks at Best Buy - I'm wondering if they lowered the price because of picture quality issues as has been known to occur. I completely trust Mr. Harris' reviews but he didn't given this disc a "highly recommended" rating like he did for the HD-DVD. I need reassurance that this blu-ray is a vast improvement over the 10th anniversary DVD and is absolutely worth picking up

The price has nothing to do with the quality as far as most sales go.

A few weeks ago I got 500 Days of Summer for 12.99 and that is a great transfer. Prices just drop.

this is a fantastic Blu-Ray disc

I watched it again on regular DVD (after buying Goodfellas on Blu) and Casino looked terrible on DVD, especially scenes shot in front of the Casino with all the sparkling lights

the Blu looks stunning, and makes a brilliant film even more gripping
