For those into details, Karl Brown, the cinematographer of The Covered Wagon, spent his early days as a camera operator for D.W. Griffith.
By the time 1923 came around, many of the conventions of the cinema were in place, and James Cruze's high budget Paramount production, takes advantage of them in this silent epic western.
Speed conversion is noted in a non-linear way, but it all works to fill out the original 98 minute running time.
Derived from multiple elements, the Kino release is workable and pleasing, although still a bit raw, in a non-restored state.
For our purposes, to see a quality example of early 1920s cinema, it works just fine.

On a more serious note, I never seen this western so I'm going to buy this BD one day down the road.
