Maybe I should clarify. I haven't purchased my projector yet. I want to find a projector/dvd player that are compatible and will give me the upconversion. I will likely end up with a 4805 or Optoma h30/h31. Can those pjs handle the upconversion?

Will an upconversion DVD player improve the picture quality at all if my projector is only 480p?

Dumb question: Why do I need these and how much do they cost?

Thanks Pat, again. :) I have to rethink this. I don't want to be spending $50 a month + equipment on a HDTV subscription if it's not going to look like true HDTV, such as that on a Plasma or DLP television. So basically, sub-$2000 projectors are typically for DVD watching and that's it?

If I play 4:3 stuff on a 16:9 native projector, is the quality dropoff minimal or really big? Take the 4805 for example. Is it good at 4:3?

I've honestly never seen a DLP projector. How does a typical DLP projector's image quality compare to a DLP television? I already own a Samsung 50 inch DLP, and I am looking at the InFocus Screenplay 4805.

My dad just got a Samsung HD931 DVD player which looks amazing on his new Samsung 50" DLP HDTV. But he has no speakers or receiver or surround system. His budget is $1000. What would be a good way to go? Also, he prefers floor standing speakers. Any thoughts?
