    Video Essentials and sub calibration

G'day, I've never been clear about this particular issue, but using the Radioshack SPL meter and VE, should I calibrate my sub to 75dB or 78dB, due to the roll-off the Radioshack meter exhibits? Thanks, Mal

    Multi-channel SACDs and DVD-As

Howdy, I was wondering if all Multi-channel SACDs and DVD-As contained a high-fidelity two-channel track (in DSD or MLP), for those who dislike multi-channel audio? Thank you, Mal

How much power does your HT use?

Howdy, In these days of multiple subs and huge poweramps, I was wondering if anyone had done any measurements on how much power their system was consuming overall? What would the cost of running your system flat out for an entire movie? Anyone get the cold shoulder from the missus? :) Cheers, Mal

    Subwoofer calibration for music

Howdy, I recently purchased a HSU Vtf-2 subwoofer and so far it's been very good. I enjoy the extra "slam" for films over my main speakers (which extend down to 30hz, -3dB or so) and it's *almost* as fast as my mains for music (just a tad laggy, but the extra depth below 30hz makes up for it)...

A problem with identical front speakers

Hello there, I plan on getting three *identical* bookshelf speakers across the front, i.e. the same speaker for the L/C/R channels. I'm strongly considering the Monitor Audio Gold Reference 10s, which are magnetically shielded. However, I'm a little worried about the imaging that may suffer...

    How do SPL measurements work?

Hi there, Say, a subwoofer is capable of 105dB at 30hz, and 91dB at 25hz. If I listened at 85dB, would the volume at both frequency points be even? Or am I getting this wrong? Thanks, Mal

Does Video Essentials have a frequency sweep?

Hi there, I was wondering if Video Essentials has a frequency sweep for each channel that sweeps through from 20hz to 1khz or so... I need to test the cross-over point of my receiver. Thanks, Mal

    HSU Vtf-2 or Vtf-3

Hi there, Unfortunately due to the expense of shipping and customs duty, SVS subwoofers aren't a viable option for me in my country (Australia). Thus, I've had to look at other high-quality alternatives such as HSU and Paradigm. The latter is very expensive here, but the former is quite...

    Hsu Vtf-3?

Hi everyone, Wasn't the HSU VTF-3 supposed to come out around this time? What happened to it? I'm very interested in seeing how it compares to the VTF-2, especially in terms of musicality. A good, fast subwoofer is what I need to keep up with all the dynamic music I listen to. Sincerely, Mal

Can I use the Outlaw ICBM this way?

Hi there, My receiver has a fixed crossover of 100hz, and I'm led to believe that this is too high. I was thinking about adding the Outlaw ICBM to handle the bass management. Do you think it will work in the way it's described as follows: 1) My L/R speakers handle bass down to 31hz at -3dB...

Subwoofer choice for a moderate volume listener?

Hi there, With so many people in this forum talking about listening at reference levels, I feel a little left out :) I'm a moderate volume listener, and for stereo (which is what I listen to the most), on my Sony DA555ES receiver, the 9'oclock position on the volume knob is too loud for me...

    Best reciever for music?

Hi there, I'm after a replacement for my venerable Sony 555ES, and I was interested in what sort of recievers are available these days. In particular, I'm after ones which shine with music... the Sony isn't the best as it tends to become harsh at times. Or maybe I should just buy a musical...
