Used to have a wine rack. I enjoyed all the pretty colors that Boone's Farm came in, along with the orange plastic goblets that I hung beneath. My wife got rid off it after her friends came over though.
Ha hahahahaha! That's great!!!!!
We have blue plastic gobblets. They stay in the camper tho!!! Lol!

This weekend I started putting up the post cover. What a pain figuring out the last panel! I ended up using a block of wood and hammered it on. All our clamps are broke so the trim pieces will have to wait

This weekend (after a TMNT movie screening Friday night) will be a theater/basement work weekend. Any thoughts on what would be a good project?
This thread is very disappointing. I thought I'd get more feedback. I'm following a thread that started the same time as mine and he has 4x (at least. I lost count) as many comments. Wonder why this happens on any forum/thread I post?
Is there a trick? Should I change my profile pic?

There have been numerous discussions here over the years--entire threads, actually--about those members who have strange powers to kill threads. You might fall into that particular sub-category.

j/k

Seriously, I think the main difference between your thread here and Ron's is that he was starting from scratch and asking very specific questions...whereas in your thread it seemed as if you came in already having started and having a direction on how you planned to proceed.

People have a tendency to just lurk a thread like yours (and watch your progress) and more actively participate in a thread like Ron's

But that's a very unscientific observation and opinion.

And, ya know, (thread) size isn't everything...

We have our daughters guitar instructor looking into getting us a deal on some JBL Fronts
I have so many things I can do I can't decide what would make the biggest difference. I'm too close to the project to see what would be the best, biggest impact.
We will soon be working on outside projects and the outside theater so I'd like to make some progress in the theater done before that.
Some options:
-Install concession stand floor ( a friend has promised us their mis purchased laminate adhesive plank flooring)
-work on the bar area in the game room. We have no ideas that we have settled in for this yet
-sound in theater. Including sound panels. My worst subject. I don't know where to start. We have to at least optimize what we have now until we can settle on a front speaker upgrade
-a star ceiling painted by me is in the works. Just need the extra cash to purchase the kit (before the prices go up. This is a top of the list for purchases right now)
-paint the concession stand ceilings. What is the best process?
- lighting in concession stand and game room. Can lighting?
-paint more in the game room. I have 2 walls to dry lock paint. I'm not fond of the color. Can I paint over it with regular paint?
-I'm not satisfied with the look of the game room. I keep changing the setup and furniture arrangement.

I feel like I spend a crazy amount of time researching. Do others research? It seems that so many just ask a question and so many options are thrown at them then discussed in depth.

I need to look up those threads! I left another forum because I felt like the odd girl out. Both for being a girl and not having the big money many seemed to have to spend.
And Mike, your town has been very good to us for purchasing theater or photography equipment.
Do you know if there are many "theater people" in the area? And how do you like Hippos? I assume you have been there? Any good local stores/resources you recommend?

Are you near me, Meghan, geographically speaking?

I know of about a half-dozen HTF members in the general area. Four nearby in Albany proper and a couple more in the north country (Lake George and near the St. Lawrence). We have never gathered for a local meet. That is long overdue.

I, too, am a budget-minded guy in terms of HT hardware. For that reason, I am rarely at Hippos. They tend to carry a more higher-end line of goods than what I would normally purchase. Or, at least the did years ago. And their TV ads still seem to reflect that.

I used to shop gear at Best Buy...but now tend to purchase most everything off-line (including most of my software).

I don't have a dedicated HT space in my home...just a set-up in my living room.

I can see Howe Caverns from the top of my property. Thankfully WITHOUT the casino! ;)
Best Buy in Crossgates was fun before we got the theater space but now I feel like I know more than anyone there could (it was iffy at times even before I learned all I now know!! Lol!) I visit Hippos just to steal ideas and info to sort through later. Once, before we did the theater we brought the kids there and let them hang out in the theater while we mostly pretended to be interested in buying gear and chatted with salesmen. They had A BLAST. Then we got to the car and were like "ok what do you like the most about it? Ok let's DO IT!"
I found out this summer that my aunts sister has a home theater in the Albany area. I would have LOVED to have know that before we started.
I'd love an Albany meet!!!

I love Howe Caverns! Some best friends had their wedding there a couple of years ago. I'd never taken the trouble to go over to see the place, and I was blown away by it. We commandeered their motel and it was a beautiful early fall weekend. We were also a good group -- i.e. not destructive to the place, which was much appreciated by the folks there.

Never heard of Hippos. Sounds interesting. I'm in western Connecticut and would happily meet up with a merrie band of Albany-centric HTF'ers at any time.

Also, what Mike said about these threads. Plenty of people post extensively about their HTs, great and small, with little or no comment. That doesn't mean they aren't being followed. Ron's was like a damned lightning rod, partly because it was clear he was desperate for some very specific information, and a few of those jumping right in to offer help were people who already knew him well.

Hippos is overpriced more than most people need and can afford gear BUT they have one 100% functioning theater and a second that last we were there they were switching out the projector. So browsing for ideas can be fun if you can avoid the salesman pressure.;)
Aside from the very commercial Howe Caverns we also have a more natural Secret Caverns. Both are great experiences. Plus Cooperstown is right down the road. We love our area!
We travel to CT often for IKEAand bought theater gear there also!!! Lol! We enjoy traveling!
I think I need more real life friends who have theaters. I just hate the "I'm lost" feeling I get sometimes. If I'm building a deck I have a friend to call, if my car breaks I have a friend to call, pool/hot tub out of PH, call a friend...not so much with the theater!
I think we will be picking up the flooring my friend promised us this weekend. Also, I ordered a basketball hoop that folds out of a cabinet to replace the small flor standing one. We need to de-clutter the game room. Too many toys! Lol

I was reading for the first time the web site for Hippos.

It was interesting that in their "Ultimate Home Theatre" section they keep referring to FILM!!! I don't think they are selling anything in that store that has anything to do with "film"...lol Maybe a better choice of words would have been "showing your movie". :P

Maybe they have a nice selection of 35mm and 70mm projectors in the back room, and you just have to ask!

My kitchen is crowded with some theater/game room purchases. We drove for 4 hours last night doing some pick ups. And the mail man/UPS/FedEx people were busy. It's like Christmas here today!!!
Cabinet for the games in the game room. The white one we currently have set up looks too messy:

We got the JBLs!!! They sound nice on their own. Can't wait to play with sound in the theater!

I'm replacing the smaller basketball hoop with a cabinet one to save floor space. My daughter wanted this for her birthday

Some new 3D

A few things in the works:
A drum. It's on layaway at the local music store where my daughter takes lessons. I'm not musical but I think I can manage to keep a beat while my daughter and guy play guitar
ImageUploadedByHTF1426595742.974147.jpg

And I'm thinking about doing a goose island theme for bar stuff
My guy is from Chicago and I like the sophisticated look of it. I sadly missed a great deal on a chalkboard on eBay. So I'm on the lookout for some cool deals
