John, I just noticed that the Time Life website is now advertising a ship date of August 13th. Has the title been delayed or have you just pre-sold everything that will be available on the 6th?

Hi John! Thanks for your latest updates. Just the news of the list alone is more than we could hope for in most interactions with a merchant. Since I've already given you a big list of questions that i know you're working on (which again is amazing) I'm reluctant to duplicate them here.
Regarding the big box vs the smaller sets: I was surprised to see so many different configurations released, but I imagine the purpose was to reach out to several different budget levels and therefore allow the product to reach as many people as possible. I am guessing then that the content is such that each of the bigger sets contains everything in the smaller sets. Right?
I imagine that the more successful this show sells at whatever price point, the more likely we are to get more episodes and another big box.
TL's commitment to the show: because of the fact that 62 episodes are already out there, and the first big box is largely previously released episodes, I am hoping that the possibility of a second big box is not entirely dependent on the sales of the first. I Also kinda hope that as word spreads among fans more people will buy the first box for the bonus content and especially when word gets out that the eps (hopefully) have all been remastered and therefore look much better than the previous release.
Suggestions for inclusion on subsequent volumes: Thanks for being so receptive to that. What would be your preferred way to get such requests? I imagine TL is already monitoring the two threads here and printing out the content for reference. Would you like a separate thread for requests, shall we email them, or would you prefer we just post them here and you can sift them out?
One request I can think of is another Garry Moore show mentioned here previously where Carol plays Mrs. Peter Piper - which from this transcript sounds hilarious. http://www.oocities.org/tbtho/piper.htm

I never bought the existing set. I was getting ready to break down and buy the Guthy-Renker discs, but then Time-Life announced this. Thus, whatever episodes they include will be new to me, so I will be buying the set.

Every time they change the ship date I have to go back and recalculate to see when the payments will hit. Maybe this time it'll be a little easier on the budget. We've got Carol's Primetime Specials coming out on August 28. So now the billing for the big box should hit on Aug 13, September 3rd & 24, (ouch) October 15 and November 5. And Carol's Christmas Show set comes out November 4. I'm not going to stress about the everchanging release date, it'll be nice when it gets here.
I really hope that somehow this show finds its way back on TV at least for a while - I think the more it gets seen, the more people will buy the DVDs. I know there are plans to market to the prime demographic, but I hope the AARP / LifeAlert / Hoveround / ColonialPenn / Cialis / Ensure / Walk-inTub / Shady Pines crowd won't be the only ones buying it. Cause we're all on fixed incomes, doncha know...

John,
Thanks so much for taking the time to provide such helpful information. It is appreciated. The only other question I have, and this may have been addressed and I missed it, is: Can a list of the 50 episodes be provided? This seems like the backbone piece of basic info and I haven't been able to locate it.
Thanks again.

Yes Alan. John took our questions right to TL's authority on this show and got an agreement to get us the episode list - which is being cleaned up and formatted for us - amazing progress for this kind of thing. There are other questions he is working on as well, which is why John is gaining many fans here...
And of course when we get our Carol Burnett sets we'll tell all our friends and relatives and coworkers and acquaintances and fellow blog buddies how much we love the show and how happy we are with the new DVDs, and invite them over to watch, and then they'll buy it and tell their friends... So it'll work out well all around.

If I recall correctly, press for this release mentions including the Sydney Concert Hall show as the only episode not shot at the CBS studio.
I came across this today, about THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW IN LONDON
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0393127/
It's listed as a TV Movie... Produced in 1970 it's normal episode length with same director as series.
Wondering if this might possibly be included in a future set. So John, Please add this to the Wish List.
Notes from IMDb:
Produced in order to introduce British audiences to the concept of The Carol Burnett Show which was about to debut on UK TV.
This show eventually aired in the US as a regular episode of The Carol Burnett Show on CBS on 9 November 1970.

I found it interesting that the Columbia House DVDs had volume numbers, but the Guthy-Renker ones don't. But the Guthy-Renker DVDs add the episode numbers (production numbers), which were not mentioned on the Columbia House DVDs. So I added them in bold below (Guthy-Renker has only released the first 21 volumes). There also were discrepancies for two airdates, which I have highlighted in bold, but after I did it, I went back and re-read your post and if I understand correctly, the airdates listed on the DVDs are wrong? Anyway, I hope this helps. I always like to have some kind of official identification such as an episode number or title, just to make it easier to keep track of the shows. Best I can tell, the numbers represent production order rather than airdate order. First the season, then whichever show it was for that season. This is right off the Guthy-Renker DVDs. I look forward to the list of shows to be included in the new sets.

Has anyone been able to see an episode list in the Ultimate collection? I have searched over and over again on the web, to no avail.
Also, there isn't any mention of musical guests? Musical numbers removed?
Am I the only one in the dark?
thanks! yrs, Rob

Well for one brief shining moment we had a Time Life guy who sounded like he was going to get some info for us. - He said they actually did NOT plan to release an episode list but DID promise to get US the list and post it here - but he has gone MIA now, and the Big Box is set to ship in about two weeks anyway, so it looks like we'll just have to wait until one of us gets his order delivered and then takes the time to copy down all the info and post a list.
If you scan back on these threads you'll get pretty much all the info we have. No, the musical numbers will not be removed from the episodes in the sets. However there are some individual sketches from the first five seasons thrown in. My speculation on that is they may have finally gotten the rights to seasons 1-5 but paying off all the music rights on those seasons is another matter.
The released info so far mentions guests, some of them are musical, but remember the guests on this show tended to do everything and not just sing.
I think it's interesting that they are releasing this in four different versions, 1, 2, 6 and 22 discs. I maybe would have put more of a difference in the first two sets, like 1, 3, 6, but it think it's clear the intention is to offer an option for every budget level. It's beginning to look like the disc content will be the same in every set, meaning they'll all have the same first disc, and each bigger set will have everything from the smaller set and just add extra discs to it. Just a hunch, because they haven't released episode lists for the smaller sets either.

It's hard to give TL the benefit of the doubt at this point, after a rep said he would share the episode list and hasn't. I am still left wondering why it is an issue in the first place unless, as others have speculated, not very much new material, in terms of episodes, is on the set. Holding back the list seems deliberate, and I still find the use of the word "season" to denote disc numbers highly suspect.

It is too bad, however it likely will reflect in their presale numbers. There is no discount from T-L for pre-ordering, so while wondering is natural i don't see any point in sweating the lack of a complete episode list. It will all be apparent in a few weeks by which time we can all make an informed decision.

Actually since I got an email from T/L shortly after ordering asking me to check out their new site, I believe what we've been told that the Episode thing is a preformat glitch and it has not been repeated elsewhere so that is not a concern for me.
I have always assumed the episodes in the box would be at LEAST 75% previously released. I can only hope they've made a way to make them look better than the last set. I just looked at the Showstoppers/Bump Lights DVDs and though they were eight to eleven years old boy the scenes from the original show look terrible. While I'm disappointed at the lack of info right now my biggest concern for this box set is how I will pay for it. I am also not sure TL won't push back the ship date again and end up day and date with the retail sets.

One thing is for sure: it can all too often seem black and white on the consumer end but more times than not there are a million shades of grey for the folks who actually have to deal with the financial and political realities of producing and distributing content on disc-based media.

The age of the show being issued on DVD will more than likely ensure that the above-mentioned people will be the only ones likely buying it.

You know, I am slowly becoming "interested" in this massive set --
especially with the time payment option.

I just hate Time/Life products because they are so vastly overpriced.
The last thing I bought from them was the Get Smart boxed set years
ago.

I'll have to sit and think about this a little longer, but it does appear to
be a tempting set to purchase.

I haven't seen the time payment option mentioned on the site anymore. Maybe it's still in the checkout section. There isn't much risk. They only charge the first installment when they ship. You can return the set within 30 days for a full refund. What's confusing is the site says they ship on 8/13, while all the recent press releases still say the 6th. And I believe the latest release went out after the site changed the date, so when it comes is anybody's guess. Seems the original intention was to have the megaset out about a month before the retail, (good idea for word of mouth) but now it;s looking like they're coming out at the same time.
If the press releases are to be believed this set includes most of the episodes I remember, but the press releases are not totally accurate. One says the Sydney episode was the only one shot out of the studio, but I recently found another that was shot in London. All we can do at this point is cross our fingers, wait and hope.
