Never Say Never Again in future Bond sets? (1 Viewer)

Will "Never Say Never Again" be included in either of the future James Bond box sets that are on tap for Fall 03 and Fall 04?

I would say the answer is no. It's never been in any of the collected boxed sets of Bond movies, and I'm sure it never will be.

Just about the same chance that Casino Royale will be included, which is zero. They didn't even mention James Bond or 007 on the cover of that one!

Am i right in thinking the reason why NSNA is not included is because it was a remake of Thunderball and therefore does not count as a Bond entry?

While it might seem logical that "Never Say Never" appear with the other Bond titles, especially now that MGM now owns "Never Say Never", it is probably up to Danjaq/Eon Productions, meaning the Broccoli and Wilson families who jointly own Bond with MGM. They have veto power over how the Bond films are exploited. Because of all the ill will generated by that film over the last nearly 20 years, it's not likely that they would allow it to be packaged with their Bond titles.

Nope, it doesn't fit into the Bond mold closely enough; the conventions aren't there.
Where do people file "Never Say Never Again" in their DVD collection?
- Between "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Live And Let Die" for the end of the Connery's Bond movies
- Between "Octopussy" and "A View To A Kill" for the correct theatrical release order
- After "The World Is Not Enough", because it belongs outside the Bond series
- Between "Moonraker" and "Octopussy" for the correct alphabetical order
- After "Casino Royale", because it's the next unofficial Bond film
- Between "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Robocop 2", for Director Irvin Kershner's filmographic order

As has been said, it is not an "offical" Bond movie. SC got a bundle for coming back as JB and making it. More then any of his other official films. Ironically, it seems to be in the TV package with the other Bond films however. (Connery has one the best toupees I'ver ever seen in this one!)

I still remember when I was either 9 or 10 and had just acquired my Bond addiction, that I was disappointed when none of the other movies said at the end "James Bond will return in 'Never Say Never Again'". At the time, I just thought it was another movie in the same series, never mind that there was no Bond theme and no gun barrel sequence.

LOL.

I haven't picked it up on DVD yet. I have it on VHS and tried to watch it a year or so ago. Couldn't do it. It lacks all the little classy things that go into a Bond film. Titles, theme song, John Barry.....etc.

Thunderball is so much better.

actually, come to think of it, currently nowhere. because of that missing scene glitch, I asked a friend in NYC to arrange a swap for me with MGM (can't get it swapped out here in Singapore). dunno if she's swapped it yet, to this day. :frowning:
I have to say that despite seeing Connery back in the Bond role, it just doesn't quite feel like a Bond, without the logo, opening barrel shot, and most importantly, the famous theme every once in a while.

I don't really remember what specific scene it was, but I remember checking mine to see if it was complete, and it was, and I bought mine a long time ago.
I file mine after the official Bond DVD's as well. I would love to file it after The empire strikes back though

The corrected version of the disc has the top white label with asterisks (***Never Say Never Again***).

Has anyone noticed on the NSNA DVD that MGM's logo appears NOWHERE on the exterior packaging -- not on the disc, not on the spine, not in the copyright...had to have been something to do with the lawsuit that was settled. MGM's logo appears before the movie, BUT it seems curious the MGM name doesn't appear anywhere else on the packaging.

I file it between "Octopussy" and "A View To A Kill" for chronological order. I believe the missing scene involved Bond shoving a guy in a closet while making him hold onto an explosive device just before he entered Largo's party.

I file all of the official Bond movies under 'B' and then in chronological order of release. I file NSNA under 'N.'

I believe it was in some mini-set though with the initial releases of Octopussy and The Living Daylights.
I only remember because I had the original Living Daylights that had no subtitles burned in. I returned it for replacement and MGM sent me the corrected Living Daylights along with Octopussy and Never Say Never Again, the latter of I still haven't watched.

On a side note, I know Ocopussy is considered a sub-par Bond film, but why was it only givena Dolby 2.0 track for DVD when the others of the era got Dolby 5.1? And how did Thunderball (which I disappointedly don't own) get a 5.1 track when all the other oldies (I believe all before Golden Gun) are mono?
