Forget the endless, repetitive destruction of comic book movies, I'm just getting so tired with franchises in general (even the good ones are really starting to bore me now) but I was pleasantly surprised that I thought the first trailer for this looked pretty good. That probably has more to do with the actors involved with this movie than anything else though.

I remember seeing 'Blade' at the theater in 1998. I thought it was really good. I was excited at the possibilities of comic book movies based on Marvel characters.
Right now, I'm exhausted with the movies based on Marvel characters.
We need more comic book films like 'Ghost World', 'American Splendor' and 'Crumb'. I'd like to see an adaptation of 'Strangers In Paradise'.

It seems like TV is the home for comic book stories outside the Marvel and DC universes. AMC has Preacher soon, Cinemax has Outcast this summer, FX is apparently working on Y: The Last Man and Cinemax is developing The Boys.

I agree about the disaster porn, I just rolled my eyes at it in this trailer.

We need more superhero movies like the recent TV shows Daredevil and Jessica Jones. You don't have to destroy a city in every movie, just have a good story with interesting characters. Why every superhero movie has to be a destruction buffet these days is beyond me, I just don't understand why that continues to appeal to people.

You're so right Chris. Not every superhero film has to be about the end of the world as we know it. Marvel did an excellent job steering away from the overdone gratuitous destruction with Ant-Man, and I'm hoping they'll continue in that vein with Black Panther.

I know I haven't grown tired of these movies yet but I would like more variety story wise. I am losing interest for other types of Blockbuster type movies, though I do have a fondness for mass destruction movies.

The new trailer for AoA looks a lot better.

The reviews for this are starting to be published, and they're pretty harsh.

Here's Variety's, which is the best of the four I read:

http://variety.com/2016/film/review...ce-michael-fassbender-oscar-isaac-1201768577/

If you’ve seen one cinematic apocalypse, you’ve seen them all. At least that’s the feeling conjured by “X-Men: Apocalypse,” the latest entry in one of the more reliable comic-book franchises around, this time disappointingly succumbing to an exhausting case of been-there-done-that-itis.

Out of all three superhero films released so far (the other two being Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman), I would probably rank X-Men: Apocalypse second. Although, it's worth noting that I liked Batman v Superman.

My main criticisms of the movie are that it doesn't carry forward the strong moral themes and social undercurrents of most of the previous X-Men movies, and that its retro '80s aesthetic is all but abandoned in its third act, in favor of yet another climactic battle fought with futuristic technology and dark, leathery uniforms.

Otherwise, I think anyone who enjoyed the tone of the previous X-Men films will enjoy this one, which is to say it 's not quite as grim and serious as Batman v Superman, but, still, not nearly as humorous as anything one might find in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

You can find my official review here. 3.5 out of 5.

Hey, you forgot the Merc with the mouth! ;)

While I'm concerned that the reviews for this haven't been nearly as good as Singer's other efforts (and Vaughn's), I'm still looking forward to it.

I didn't realise that this starts next weds, I had it down as 27th May. It is a shame the reviews have been disappointing, but I am still planning to see it.

As far as I know, it's still opening May 27th. I'm surprised that advance tickets haven't been made available yet. Captain America: Civil War tickets went onsale two months before that movie opened.

That was probably where I got the 27th from. Its definitely next weds over here. Looks like they are doing a midnight showing at the local cinema. I can't remember them doing one for an x-men film before.

Went to my local multiplex and watched another new superhero movie last night, who groaned? The 4th one this year. X-Men Apocalypse. It's the lowest rated X-Men movie at Rotting Rotten Tomotatoes. Again I don't know what their problem is, the usual superhero shenanigans are up on screen, the film was enjoyable, it moves fast for its 140mins. I admit I'm a pushover for these sort of films. I can't get hypercritical over a film that features people in capes flying, teleporting or zipping around at supersonic speeds.

Unlike Civil War there is a big nasty villain for our heroes to defeat, here played by Oscar Isaac. I do miss Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan but the younger generation has taken over, it's more Teen X-Men now. Jennifer Lawrence doesn't get much to do except look gorgeous in this one. Not sure if this is a spoiler or not but the most popular mutant of them all does get a ferocious snarling 5 minute cameo, easily the most violent segment of the film.

This is the third time in a row we see a tearful Professor X begging Magneto to turn away from the dark side, enough already either make him a team player or leave him out of the next one. I like Michael Fassbender in the role and the film does give him another good reason to hate non-mutants. but he has been causing problems in all 6 X-men movies, not counting the Wolverine and Deadpool standalones.

Nuff said, X-Men Apocalypse was entertaining. I give it 3.5 out of 5.

I didn't find Apocalypse to be a particularly good film, but I did at least find it an entertaining one.

I can see why the reviews haven't been kind. The plot is very run of the mill and many of the characters get very little to do. Of Apocalypse's four horseman only Magneto who is already well established gets much to do. He had one scene in particular that some people could have a very strong emotional reaction to, positive or negative. I thought Shipp as Storm did well with what she was given which was more than Angel and Psylocke who were just kind of there. On the other side Jean Grey, Cyclops and Nightcrawler make their first appearances in their younger form. Quicksilver gets some development to go along with another scene similar to his DOFP one, but they don't go as far as they could have with it. The cameo is both superfluous and glorious. The climax to the film is well executed, but the scenes after that don't work for me. I had to look up the meaning of the post credit scene.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but some of my friends have.

They put this entry below X1, X2, First Class, and Days of Future Past.
They put it above Last Stand and the rest.

So ... Their opinion is that the movie is entertaining if you're an X-Men or Super Hero fan; but nothing special.

I'm going to try to catch it over the weekend.

It's nothing special but it's a decent popcorn movie that manages to be serious without getting unnecessarily dark. The biggest problem with the movie is that there's alot of characters so the new characters don't get much screen time or there isn't a chance for the audience to get to know them. The established characters don't really suffer from that but only because they've been in other movies.

I just go back from my screening. Fun and entertaining film! I have to investigate the post credit sequence.
