I just recently bought an HD pack for my X-box, my question is, if I were to buy the DVD player pack would it work as an upscaling DVD player or is that ability disabled?

Without a mod chip, the Progressive ability of the Xbox is disbabled. You will only be able to get 480i with the dvd kit.
