I believe I read that the 1966 Batman movie was an entirely different entity from the series. It's rights were signed on a long time ago. I think Fox paid WB for the rights, so they own that property outright. This is why they could release it but the series continues in legal limbo.

And that would also explain why the supplementary material on the Batman DVD has not a single clip from the TV series in it.
