I really don't believe that the Oscars are a accurate depiction of best (X category).

They are petty and a very political.

Unfortunately it has become the benchmark of cinema depicting the best of that year in any given category.
English Patient anyone?

My vote would be Jerry Goldsmith for countless wonderful scores. His only win was in 1976 for his score to THE OMEN. Everything he has done since (all the Star Treks....Rudy....LA Confidential.....Disney's Mulan...just to name a few)..he has not won.

ughhhhhh.....

Interesting interpretation, but one I disagree with except the film being controversial. This could be an interesting topic for discussion in another thread.
I’ll have a think and start one up when a return from a trip, Robert.

I have more well-formulated thoughts, than the one-line capsule that you reference. I suspect that we may not be in all that much disagreement, but I can say that this film caused a lot of late night discussion when it was first screened—and I have changed my view of some actions substantially after due consideration.

Don't know if it was mentioned, but Rick Baker not being nominated for Planet of the Apes is absurd. Was there a reason for this?

Let's see... People who should have won...

Cate Blanchette- Elizabeth

Ophrah Winfrey - Color Purple

Danny Glover - Color Purple

Whoppi Goldberg - Color Purple

Steven Spielberg- Color Purple

Robin Williams- The Fisher King

Terry Gilliam- The Fisher King

Nicole Kidman- To Die For

Kevin Smith- Chasing Amy

Joey Lauren Adams- Chasing Amy

I would agree with others on Naomi Watts for Mulholland Dr.
