I only recommended a Firehawk if he goes digital. It is a good screen not only for DLP but with LCD as well. It is not really intended for CRT at all.

The 9000u is less than that. In fact, I've seen as low as $4999 after the $1000 rebate. However, you're right, the 10000u is about to ship, which should absolutely rock the 9000u.

The firehawk was actually developed for low output (low lumen) digital projectors. It's gain is higher than unity (1.35), and is silver/gray based, to boost perceived contrast and lower black levels. For a CRT projector, you'd want to use a white based screen.
