Which Trailer Park Boys DVD? Bad seasons to avoid? Good seasons to grab? (1 Viewer)

I like the Trailer Park Boys but have not seen many episodes. Could somebody suggest what seasons are best? I could just start with season one and two, and I may do that, but I am just wondering if there is a season that is lame or a particularly good season to get. I don't care about getting things out of order. I don't plan to keep buying them, I just want to have some on DVD.

thanx

:)

I've seen the first 4 seasons and the Xmas special. They are all great DVDs. Pricey but good extras (extended, alternate, deleted scenes). I'd say Season One and Two are the best. They started to bring in more gimmicks in later seasons (like guest stars and puppets and wild animals). You also get "Cart Boy", the forerunner to TPB on the season One/Two set.

If it's like last year, Season 5 should be out in April. Haven't seen it since I don't watch TV.

Gotcha. I also like the fact that there are commentary tracks. Are they actually from the actors, or are they further layered performances (like the characters commenting on the dvd like it was a real dockumentary...it would be funny either way).

I love the whole run (haven't seen season 5 yet since I'm in the States). I would only counsel newcomers that the first couple episodes start a little slow because they're setting up the dynamic, so, for example, "Take Your Tiny ****ing Gun and Get Out of My Trailer Park" while the first episode, is not the best representative to start with. Maybe better to go with "Mr. Lahey's Got My Porno Tape."

Seasons 1 and 2 are packed together, so that's a good start to collecting. Season 3 has the "Closer to the Heart" episode with Alex Lifeson.

I guess I'm saying buy them all, take your time, they're worth it.

Yep. I will buy them all. Too funny. Of course, I have put season #1 and #2 on my Christmas list ;)

Season One/Two has a few commentaries with the director (who is also one of the creator/writer/producers). I think season 4 has cast commentaries and a fairly lengthy producers interview and season 3 a few director commentaries. Xmas special has producers (3 of them) commentary.

Also have to say, buy them all. And in order too. The Christmas special is the most recent one and is sort of a prequel to the show. It isn't half as funny if you don't know how the characters wind up (such as Mr. Leahy meeting Randy).

The show really is hysterical. Love the characters. I don't know why it isn't a bigger hit in the US. BBC America doesn't even show it anymore (probably gave up on trying to bleep it) and you can't get the DVDs on regular Amazon, have to get it from Amazon.ca.

And the DVDs are great. Lots of commentaries (and this is one sitcom that makes you want to listen to commentaries), deleted scenes, outtakes, documentaries, etc. So, it is worth the price. I've watched all the episodes but have yet to make it through all the supplements.

Anyway, again, great show, great DVDs, get them all.

Season 4 is pretty good, it has "Conky" (Bubbles' evil puppet a la "Magic"), it has "The Green Bastard" (backyard wrestling matches for "charity"), and the classic Steve French episode (a mountain lion eats Ricky & Julian's pot crops!)-"That f**king lion's totally baked!"
Season 3 has the great Rush episode you have to see to believe.
I have gotten a tape of Season 5 from my brother-in-law (Montrealer)and it's pretty bad, I'm sorry to say. I'm a long time fan but I have to say that maybe the jokes are getting a little old.
All I'll say about the last season is if you like Ray (Ricky's dad) and Cyrus then you might enjoy it. :frowning:

Hey Chris...you buy S3 and loan it to me, and I'll loan you S1/2. Well, I'd loan it to you anyway, but since you "want to have some on DVD", and I want to watch S3...:D

I really recommend watching at least some of S1/2 first though, sets the background up. I wish these season sets were a *little* cheaper, certainly never any bargains to be had, unlike, say, Corner Gas.

CraigF,

Tempting, but this is one I'll be buying all of for myself :)...

I think the main things about the show that are so good are:

Bubbles
Ricky
Mr Lahey

Here is something I have high hopes for:

Chris: I don't blame you. I never lend or borrow discs, but to an HTF member I wouldn't mind, figure they'd treat them properly. I do prefer to buy my own discs too, so know where you're coming from.:)

Hey, no problem. Don't mis-understand, I just want to have them all to myself...to watch with friends whenever I want. I would lend and borrow with HTF members, and you included no doubt, but I just want to physically have this to keep. I hope Santa brings it on home :)
