Ok I have been doing hometheater for about a couple months now and I have ran into something that makes me really curious to know what the hell is going on.
We find this builder that has been having problems with his nuvo whole house audio system, and his dvd player is very glitchy. He also wanted a new cd changer added to the equation. So we expected to do only these few things and be out of there by noon. But the home theater company who hooked up this system before have the speaker connections all ugly looking and it was shorting out. Also the wiring was a huge mess. They have also hooked up 3 pairs of speakers into one source, but all they did was twist the wires and tape it. I basically clean it all up and fix the shorting problem and make things allot neater. The Tv is a samsung lcd flat screen and was built behind the wall and was behind the trim. So getting to the back of this tv was impossible and cut all of our possibilities possible. There is two hdmi cables going to the tv, one goes to the sat reciever and the other goes to the dvd player we hooked up. The sound goes to the tv through the hdmi's. 4 in ceiling speakers go directly to the tv wired in series and it is unknown how it is hooked up behind the tv. The sound does not go through the speakers on the tv, but the volume goes up and down like normal. I go through the menu to see if it was internally muted, but the sound options were not available like there is nothing hooked up. There is a loud pop that goes through the speakers when the tv turns on and off.
This is what I can think of so far. Correct me and help me narrow down to what is really happening.
theory 1 - The speakers are spliced into the rca's, but the tv does not see an audio source.
theory 2 - There is an external amplifier behind the tv, but still the tv sees no audio source.
theory 3 - The speakers on the tv are spliced into the speakers on the tv itself. This one may be the winner.
This still drives me insane to what the hell is behind there and my curiosity is killing me.
