Putting together a MAME machine soon and was curious to what games people hold as the ones the remember or played the most. I'll start with mine:
TRON - #1!!
Pole Position
Hogan's Alley
Ms. Pacman
Donkey Kong Jr.
and not really an arcade, but best pinball ever:
Terminator 2!!

I think from a stylisitic standpoint, I think Samurai Shodown 2 is my favorite. Based on the fact that I played it so much, I can say that Choplifter was my favorite before that, tied with Time Pilot '84.

Street Fighter II was the only arcade game I ever got hooked on. It musta been championship edition because I remember being Vega because he was so damn cheap (and hence easy for me to win with....)

I beat Vega's down with Blanka. Fear the roll!
Haha
Some other favorites are:
Cabal
X-Men (we had one at college that we played to death, usually going through the game two or three times on one play)
Raiden II

At the time I was a lot into videogames (Mid 90's) my 3 faves were:
Killer Instinct 1
Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 (I was known as "The idiot who turns everyone into a baby!" - I still don't understand why people didn't like babality moves, they were just so cute and funny!)
Currently when I visit the arcade at the AMC Theater I mainly play that Virtual Bowling game and the Podrace game.

Asteriods Deluxe took alot of my quarters, but that's because I was not very good at it and had to feed the machine every couple of minutes in order to keep playing the game.
Thank God for Game Counsels and Computers.

From the Cretaceous period of gaming it would have to be Defender. Loved that game!
More recently, easily Street Fighter II Turbo. I really loved the superb SNES version, after a while I couldn't use the arcade sticks to well! Once I could do the Dragon punch easily with Ken I almost never lost.

Well, I always favored the scrolling beat-em-up games...Final Fight, X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Bad Dudes, and my personal favorite, Spider-Man. Oh, how I so badly want to play that last game again! :)
But I must also give props to the Terminator 2 pinball machine (Steve McC is right; I have yet to meet its equal), Dragon's Lair, Discs of Tron and of course, Street Fighter 2.

No one will remember this but me, but I was never all that good at any of those games, except one, at which I may have been the world's champion, if they'd ever had such a contest: Pengo.
