Thank you, Doug. Not disputing, merely double-checking that you’re sure about this.

Wasn’t aware Pidax was bootleg and don’t recall them ever being cited as such in the many discussions and prominent threads about piracy on HTF, nor on product reviews on Amazon.de.

Several respected regulars here recommended the Pidax release of The Shootist on Robin9’s venerable Germany Blu-rays thread some years ago. If they are bootleggers, then it’s surprising that Warner hasn’t taken them to task for releasing The Adventures of Robin Hood in Germany last year. After all, “this isn’t Spain” (AMFAS).

I was hoping that if this was a genuine new master, then maybe it won’t be long before we see WAC release it on Blu.

I appreciate your warning and won’t buy this, but I’d be grateful if you or others here could confirm Pidax’s legitimacy.
I'm not saying all their releases are bootlegs but I would say that their Warner Bros controlled titles look suspicious. They released THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD on Blu-ray and for example FREAKS and LITTLE WOMEN on DVD. None of these has a Warner Bros logo. The credits don't even say MGM presents. They say Hans Schaffner Presents. Who is Hans Schaffner? Apparently the producer of the discs. Amazon.de does not as yet list CAPTAIN HORATIO HORNBLOWER so I don't know if the reverse cover is the same as the other WB titles.

Thanks for sharing your observations and valid concerns.

There is a link at Amazon.de, but it doesn’t currently include the back cover - only front, angled and a couple of Gregory Peck stills.

I was going to include a link, but decided against it as this is a WAC thread, and if there’s a chance this is a boot, the last thing I want to do is make it easy to order a copy. I’ll PM to you if you wish.

What would I love to see in blu from Warner Archive, "first day at whatever price"? Well, it's a short list:
Angels in the Outfield (the original with Janet Leigh, Paul Douglas and James Whitmore)
Arsenic and Old Lace
The Late Show
(with scene from the theatrical release but cut from the DVD restored)
There are others I'd like, but those are top of my list.

A short list like that means I'm pretty happy.

Just three, that's a short list. I'll double it with my own short list, titles that I think have a very good chance of being released:

The Roaring Twenties (1939)
Scaramouche (1952)
Land Of The Pharaohs (1956)
Up Periscope (1959)
She (1965)
Pennies From Heaven (1981)

Let's see what the rest of the year brings.

I'd love to see this classic given the 4K love rub - Helen of Troy (1956).

I don't believe they are genuine.

Although it's true -unfortunately- that there are a lot of bootlegs in Spain, a few Warner Archive titles were released legally. Three come to mind and I'm sure there are a few more:

Suspicion
I Confess

I cannot find the Warner releases on Amazon Spain for these two titles any more, although I own both. The ones that are being sold now are bootlegs. Stay away from any releases from Resen, Layons or other similar "companies". They are bootlegs.

There are great legal Spanish companies that release top class products: A Contracorriente, Avalon, Reel One.

The links below point to the Spanish editions released by Warner Bros.

Since we're posting wishlists again while we await the next batch of announcements, I'll throw mine in again as well (all of them I am hoping for on Blu-ray, since I get the general impression that where 4K UHD is concerned, if it's not on Blu-ray then I can forget about UHD happening):
  • EVERY remaining Fred Astaire musical (with particular emphasis for the three Astaire & Rogers/Irving Berlin collaborations and The Sky's The Limit)
  • every remaining Gene Kelly musical
  • every remaining Warner-owned Bing Crosby film
  • every remaining Ginger Rogers film (although, to be fair, the only ones with much of a shot, besides the Astaire-Rogers films, would be Stage Door, Kitty Foyle and Bachelor Mother)
  • the remaining Marge and Gower Champion films (particularly Love To Look At)
  • 7 of the 8 Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy films (the only reason it's not all eight is that WAC has mentioned previously that they do NOT have the film elements to bring Sweethearts to Blu-ray)
  • more Jeanette MacDonald/Nelson Eddy solo vehicles
  • more Eleanor Powell
  • more Clark Gable (particularly Dancing Lady and Idiot's Delight)
  • The remaining Marx Brothers films, especially A Day At The Races and Go West (although I suspect it will be another year before we see any more of these)
  • Arsenic And Old Lace (which at least sounds like it is coming, although whether it will be from WAC or Criterion is anybody's guess)
  • more Christmas-related films (although those are most likely to show up at the tail end of the year)
  • more Doris Day musicals (particularly Tea For Two)
  • more Judy Garland
  • more Frank Sinatra musicals
  • the Abbott and Costello films (especially Lost In A Harem)
  • most of the remaining Warner/RKO/MGM musicals from the 1930s - 1950s (there are some exceptions, but I know that those exceptions have their fans, too, and I want those to come out for their sakes, too)
