Video Blackout with Progressive Scan DVD (1 Viewer)

Hello. I have a 53" Hitachi HDTV-Ready TV and a Phillips Progressive Scan DVD Player. It's hooked up to the tv using component cables. Most of the time the picture is beautiful, but lately the screen has been going completely black for a few seconds. Then it comes back in and plays fine for a while, then goes black again. It usually only lasts a few minutes but it's annoying. When I take the DVD Player off of "progressive scan" it doesn't go black. But then the picture doesn't look as good and isn't that why I have a digital TV? Does anyone know why this would happen? The DVD player also has a setting for "Video Source: Auto, Film, Video". I've tried chaning that and it doesn't seem to help. Any ideas? Thanks!
