UPGRADING OLD COMPUTER--HELP PLEASE

    I am in the process of researching a new hard drive for my old compaq presario 5000. Does anyone know what drives are compatible with the compaq? I want to add the new drive to my system then import saved files from my old one,,any suggestion?

    specs--Compaq Presario 5000
    p4 2.4 gig processor
    80g hard drive
    770mb of ram

    Is the current drive an IDE interface or an SATA? That's really all you need to know...just make sure you get the same interface (connection) that your current drive has and you can get any size available for that interface.

    You should be able to pull up your system confiruation on the Compaq (HP) website and find out exactly what the original hardware was.

    I agree with MikeLS, as long as you get the proper ide interface you should be fine.
