Upconverting DVD player (1 Viewer)

I have a friend who has a new 37" 720p LCD monitor (Vezio) and is very set that his DVD player has to be upconverting. Does it make a lot of difference in a lower priced unit like the Samsung Model DVD-HD870C? I read through several posts about upconverting DVD players but I didn't see this question being answered specificially.

A larger tv should show a bigger difference in the upconverted picture, but it doesn't matter how much a tv costs. As long as it's HD, your friend should benefit from an upconverting player...........
