"Jeremy, keep us updated on your progress, it's always fun to hear new vinylites enjoying their new hobby, and in most cases listening to more music because of it"
I definitely will, Frank. Thanks for the help. The TT is in the shop today being calibrated and adjusted. He has the protractor you guys talk about, stylus cleaning kits, etc. Pretty exciting times, I must say:)
Mike Knapp...
Any progress on that shootout? Maybe I'll check your site or start a new thread. I'm really looking forward to the results. The fella doing the work on my TT says that the Technics SL1300/Shure V35/15 cart/stylus was one of the BEST combos available at the time on the automatic/DD front. He gave the TT a big thumbs up and like others in this thread, encourages me to stick with this table for a while given the performance available.

Saurav,

Do you have a link to the DIY phono preamp you built? I'm interested in building one and have been looking at alot of different designs on the net. I've found quite a few and now I'm having a tough time deciding which one to try. Do you have any advice on which configurations I should avoid?

Not really. My skills end at building other people's designs, I really can't compare them, let alone design one on my own.

The one I built was designed by Thorsten, or the man who uses the handle Thorsten on Audio Asylum. I don't have the URL with me, but you should be able to find it if you search the Tweakers and/or Vinyl forum on AA. The phono preamp is usually referred to as the "El Cheapo". It's op-amp based, in case that makes a difference. There are a few tube designs floating around too, but I needed more gain than most of those provide, plus I don't think my construction skills are up to the task of building atube phono stage (since it needs to be much quieter than a line stage).
