My 2 and a half year old girl loves dragons. I have no idea where she gets it from. Anyway, I bought Dragonheart for her (I watch with her and skip through the movie to Draco sequences), but I'm pretty bored with it.
What else is out there of a gentle nature. I saw Pete's Dragon when I was a kid but remember none of it, but I suppose I'm pretty safe there (if it's available).
Also, how about gentle Dino stuff. We've got Dinosaur, but I do a bit of skippage there, too. How are the Land Before Time movies?
Thanks guys,
Mark

God my 4 year old loves the Land Before Time movies, though of course those are Dino's and not Dragons. I am not sure if they are on DVD yet but I do know that the Disney channel shows them a few times a month.
How about the tv show cartoon "Dragon Tales"? She likes that too.

I haven't seen it, but didn't Mulan have a dragon in it?
Also try Quest for Camelot.

While this doesn't seem to be available on DVD yet, if youre little'uns aren't too put off by technology nearly as old as the dragons (VHS), then a friend of mine turned me on to this animated film - Link Removed . Quite recommended - and unlike other 'childrens' shows (*ahem*barney*ahem*), can be enjoyed by the parents as much as the kidlings.

Dragon Tales without a doubt is the one to pickup. My 3 year old daughter loves this show. The show is very well done and is not scary in the least bit , it airs on PBS in the afternoon. The Land before Time series is also a very safe choice.

No offense to anybody, but your average 2 1/2 year old is going to find Quest for Camelot a bit too scary. The evil character, voiced by Gary Oldman, I think, wants to kill King Arthur, to say nothing of the heroine and hero and pretty much the entire rest of Camelot. There is a goofy two-headed dragon (voiced by Eric Idle and Don Rickles, I think), but you'd have to do a ton of skipping.
Dragon Tales is the way to go.

Tom, I am glad you chimed in... no offense taken here! This is one of the very first dvd's I purchased, looking for something for my kids. They all love it, even with 20-30 other family titles on the shelf, but then again my youngest (who watches tv) is a 4 1/2 year old boy, so I hadn't really considered the "scary" angle.
Your input is probably exactly what Mark is looking for, so

You have got to pick up Shrek for your youngster. This movies made more money than any other film in 2001.

Flight of Dragons was the first thing I thought of, but it's not on DVD.
The Hobbit would be fun. That's a timeless classic. When my brother was little he would listen to our record of it over and over, and knew when Smaug (the dragon) spoke and would run to the stereo, turn it down just long enough while smaug spoke, and then turn it up. he was afraid of the dragon.
hehe. We still joke with him about that. My mom loves that story. He's almost 23 now and soon to have two kids.

Oh, don't forget New Line's Dungeons and Dragons. Definately drago-licious! :)
Jurassic Park series, of course. And the old film titled "The Lost World", not the JP one.
If Dragonslayer would just come out...
...but none of this bunch is kid-friendly, is it? Well, the scene in the 1st JP where the dino sneezes on the little girl is a hoot!
