I recently purchased a DLP rear projection HDTV and a an HDMI DVD player. My sound is 15 years old with 5 speakers using a Yamaha RXV1050 and Yamaha AX450. My room is only 10.5 ft. deep so I don't know if it pays to replace my audio equipment. I would appreciate any input if I could improve my theater sound without spending $$$$$$$$.

While you could certainly upgrade the sound by upgrading components, that doesn't appear to be the real question. You seem to think that you can't get good sound in a shallow room. Thats just not so.

Personally, the biggest change for the $ you can make is to properly treat the room itself. Once you take all the room nasties out of the equation, THEN you can realistically assess if the components are doing what you want or if they need to be replaced.
