Now that the light has been shed on 'authoring', it makes a little more sense to me.
I was one of those who thought that the authoring referred to the actual video portion of the DVD and was like WTF!

Thanks for the clarification, Marty I knew it meant the audio and video portions, but I didn't know it meant everything on the disc. Thanks for the info!
