Why is this referred to as a “remake”.

“The Maltese Falcon” is my go-to example when people argue that remakes are automatically terrible, or that Hollywood only started making remakes in the last decade.

You may have been better off calling it "The Maltese Falcon (1941)". Calling it the remake made me panic that Hollywood went insane and decided to remake it again.

The Ben Hur remake?
The Ten Commandments remake?
I agree adding the year is the better choice.

Hollywood can't make anything new that is worth beans.
That would be too much work. I don't care for the remake stuff.
But that is just me.
Have more than I can watch now.
Don't need the remake stuff.

I can’t believe it! A remake after only ten years! Hollywood has sure gotten stale since the days of silent films. These “talkies” are going to ruin film...
