All That Heaven Allows
That Obscure Object Of Desire
The Testament Of Dr. Mabuse
Ordet

All of these were easy choices, though the competition are all very good-to-great movies themselves.

My votes
My Man Godfrey
Notorious
The Third Man
The Shop on Main Street

All That Heaven Allows over My Man Godfrey 5-2
 yeah this is typical - overblown Melodrama trumps one of the all-time great classic Hollywood comedies.

That Obscure Object of Desire over Notorious 4-3

sigh. I give up.

The Testament of Dr. Mabuse over The Third Man 5-3

Ordet over The Shop on Main Street 5-1

Jim,

I kind of view this tournament like a poker game. The best thing that can happen in poker is a winning hand. But the second best is a hand so bad that you fold quickly without losing a lot of money.

It would be great if this tournament had films like My Man Godfrey, Notorious and the Third Man winning. But the way things are going every Criterion I give a damn will be out quickly, and then I can just ignore this thread. :)

My futile votes for today:

Rashomon

The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

Black Narcissus

If it's not bad form to join a poll towards the end after venturing into the Polls forum for the first time:

Rashomon
Black Narcissus

If it is bad form, then nevermind (with apologies).

Scanning backwards, I see that several of my favorites have already been given the boot. :frowning:

Hey, if Jim and George are unhappy, that must mean I'm :D

Rashomon
The Lady Eve (extremely, extremely tough)
The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp (I thought our guidebook said we had to automatically vote for Bunuel, Lew? ;))
The Passion Of Joan Of Arc

It does (Section IV, Paragraph 3). But Section VII, Paragraph 1, sub-paragraph 2 reminded us both that it was time to confuse George and Jim.

Of course had the other choice been an American instead of a Brit (sub-paragraph 3), we would have had no option but to go with Bunuel.
