Well, I have 2 NetFlix DVDs in hand for this weekend -- "Les Enfants Terribles" and "Disco Pigs". :) I really wanted "Boy Culture", but it has a "very long wait".
I finished watching Season 1 of "Rome", and Season 2 should arrive shortly. I may take a break with another DVD set first, though.
I'm also reading my first novel in months -- "Die Trying" by Lee Child. I used to be an avid reader but nowadays, TV and DVD get priority. Still, once in a while, I just need to read something.
I'm bored. . .luckily tomorrow is a holiday for us -- Admission Day!

[Waddles into frame] Whoa plenty to read since I last posted. Facebook Russ? Myspace? Spend a huge chunk of your day on the net? Sandra says I spend too much time on the net but compared to some of you guys I'm an amateur. :P
Rick you stopped watching cute animal flicks but not the cute cartoon stuff I've noticed. :D
Disco pigs, Elizabeth? Boy Culture? What? Even Haggai hasn't heard of them. ;)
I have my own version of Netflix, a lot more up to date, plus tons of oldies but goldies. Watched Target Earth last night, very noirish 50's sci-fi, the only thing spoiling it was the eventual appearance of the alien robots, which looked a bit rubbish. If it was all in shadow it would be a classic in the Val Lewton style. I have 60's French sci-fi Alphaville booked for tomorrow night.

I think that's more "art porn", but with guys this time.
No, it isn't.

Disco Pigs is an independent Irish movie, about two teen-agers, Pig and Runt, having a deep and special affinity sine childhood. They are both getting 17-years (on their shared birthday), a boy and a girl, knowing each other since their youth and finding the bond changing into love - with many problems. Not a "softy" movie, BTW.

Boy Culture is about a male escort and his complicated, multiple relations. Yes, this one is "with guys", but there are several strong female performances.

Both films certainly aren't mainstream, but certainly not "porn" either. Not to everyone's taste, probably.

I dont get into cute animation. As a matter of fact most of the anime i watch i wouldnt let my kids near.
But yea i do have a soft spot for 70s Saturday morning cartoons. I do own Johnny Quest, but you wont find any Flintstones or Scooby Doo on my shelf! :)
I saw Target Earth, and i agree 100% with your assessment Steve.
Watched Panic in the Year Zero! the other night. Very interesting Cold War movie from '62. Cheap, low budget, but had some ideas that were probably more realistic than the 80s TV movie The Day After. Zero starred Ray Miland, who also directed! If you get into Cold War movies check it out. It's one of the Midnight Movies that MGM put out a few years ago. The movie on the flip side is Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price. I still like The Omega Man more than Last Man, but its worth a watch too.

I got that twofer last year or so Rick, and loved both of them. All those vampire in "Last Man", I don;t remember that in Omega man.
Watched "Crimewave" loved it too. I can watch Sterling Hayden in anything.

"Disco Pigs" was pretty interesting. It features Cillian Murphy right before he became more widely known with "28 Days Later". He's quite good in it, including a difficult monologue scene. It has its whimsical touches, but there's an underlying sense of dread because you know things are likely to end badly. A pretty unforgettable ending. . .
The DVD from NetFlix was in 4:3, not its OAR -- still, was worth seeing.

I don't know if I want to watch 2 dudes monologue-ing.
:D
sorry, long day at the office and all that.
F4-The Silver Surfer hit the cheapo theaters, and as the resident comic nerd Droog, I wwell be bumping "Nancy Drew" from my "to see to kill an evening" list in favor of this. I recall Christou saying:
Silver Steve Cristou said:
"Fantastic four the rise of the Silver surfer" is the greatest achievment in motion pictures since Kubrick shot 2001, and proudly stands over "Alien Versus Predator" and "Independent Day" as the truely great film of our modern motion picture age. Hail the Silver Surfer!
So it better be good or he's going to have some explaining to do. I'll keep you posted.

:D If you do actually go and see FF2 Russ (what happened to your Transformers review?) see if you can spot the outline of the comic book Galactus in the space cloud whatever it is when the Surfer flies into it at the climax. Not great but I enjoyed the film. Better than the first FF anyway. Give the Surfer his own film I say! :)
Which film? I think it's from the first minute or two of the film. Any guesses?

Maybe Russell is training at work this week? He said he has a new person to train, so he would have to really work...or something.
I saw Flightplan last night. That was my first NetFlix title. The first one on my list they could send anyway. It was OK. I would own it for 5 bucks. Took some big leaps in logic, but still it was a good movie.
