Sylvia Syms -The famous British female actor has passed away aged 89..

A lovely looking woman and a fine actress. A total pro. She's especially good in "No Time for Tears"('57) and the terrific "No Trees in the Street"('59), an undercelebrated combo of kitchen sink drama and noir with Herbert Lom. Syms was also memorable in "Victim"('61) opposite Dirk Bogarde. And she and Dan O'Herlihy stole all their scenes in the Julie Andrews/Omar Sharif film "The Tamarind Seed"('74). Quite late in her career (2006), the lady did an excellent job playing the Queen Mother in "The Queen" with Helen Mirren.

My favorite Sylvia Syms performance: The Quare Fellow, based on a play by Brendan Behan. Patrick McGoohan is a prison guard on death row, and she’s the wife of a condemned man. Not a feel good movie, but boy is she terrific.
