Subwoofer Cable - Worth the Money in People's Experience? (1 Viewer)

I have a decent subwoofer and I am considering upgrading to specialist subwoofer cable. For example Monster make a broad range of specialist cables from the moderate to the "silly" prices of $US200+
To get all but the most basic of these cables in Perth Australia - you have to order them (and pay an outrageous mark-up) - so there is no real chance to compare - I have to buy blid. With Perth being a long way from the rest of the world my choice is more limited. Basically I can get Monster and Tara Labs but not much else in the specialist subwoofer range cable range.
I guess I am interested firstly in peoples experiences (good and bad) with upgrading to the cables and then if anyone has done a comparison between the different prices / grades of cables. E.g I compared Monster / Tara model X with Y and found no diffence, some difference etc

I've only tried a few - cheap cables (very thin, comes w/ most gear), a different cheap cable (thicker RG coax) and one I made from Canare cables and connectors. The Canare cable is definetly better - it sounds cleaner and seems to have a better lower range.
I'd go for a nice RG6 coax cable and you should be ok. I woulnd't spend $200 on a cable (even in your dollars) for a sub. I've heard from others that the $50-60 monster sub cable is just fine.

All my HT system is wired with Monster Cables and believe me when I said the difference is VERY noticeable compared to ordinary and cheap cable. Regarding the subwoofer cable, I recommend you the Monster Cable Interlink 201. It's THX certified and you can find it in EBAY for about 25 bucks; GREAT CABLE!!!

how long of a length are you thinking about? not much in the way handling frequencies is asked of a sub cable.

I am not into esoteric cables, and in general really don't care for Monster cables over Bettercables.
With the exception of the 6 channel analog interface between my DVD player and receiver, which is an IXOS.

But I do run a Monster Sub cable (MB400 SW-24) to my sub because:

1: Appears to be of good quality in terms of materials and workmanship

2: Has a small profile and is very flexible.

3: Has a neutral color.

4: Sounds just fine.

I second the use of RG6, especially when you get into longer runs that need custom length cables.

Hey Fernand,count me in we are in the same league.I use the Zbass 100 subwoofer cable.

3rd on the RG6. If it's good enough to transfer HiDef video, it should be good enough to handle the limited content heading to the sub.

I sidestepped the problem quite neatly when I bought the NHT SubTwoi. It's controller is a rack sized external unit that sits with my components. NHT included a 20' unidirectional cable that looks to be of very good quality. Then I bought another one and that too came with the cable. I use these and have no concerns what so ever.

For the record, I think Monster Cable has a FANTASTIC racket going.

simple, cheap and good sub cable.

Take two of part number 091-465 (RCA male to female F connector) from Parts Express Then you can grab anything from a cheapo generic $4.50 50' RG-59 coax cable (180-115) to a more expensive Dayton Audio RG-6U 25' cable for $19.80 (181-616) to the "cost no object" $69.80 12" AR Master Series cable (181-760). It's all up to you.
