Since S&V and AVIA both are Ovation products, one assumes that 85dB is the true DD "reference" (Mains to 105dB peaks and LFE to 110 or 115dB peaks).

S&V narrations merely suggests set to "over 70dB." Avia recognizes that most people will not play back at 85dB volume and says 75dB is fine for in-home use (and even here this may be "too loud.") I believe this holds for S&V HTT, too.

Since S&V is tailored to people just starting out, who may not be experienced tweakers, it takes the path of least resistence by suggesting reference in the 70dB-plus range.

S&V thus can be calibrated to 85dB OR 75dB. The end result is you will adjust the amp playback volume to what is most comfortable in your room.
