RUMOR: PS2 may drop to $99 Nov 2003 (1 Viewer)

IGN and Gamespot have both reported this rumor. Apparently, a Target executive claims to have seen promotional materials for a $99 price-point. Here is the Gamespot Story:

This rumor has hit on the-magicbox.com and ps2.ign.com as well.

IGN pulled the story in one day, I can't find it on their site anymore.

Here's hoping it's true. $99 is the right price point for me to get an X-box.

However, I have a PS2.

Also, if PS2 hits $99, I'd bet dollars to donuts that Microsoft will follow suit within days, if not hours.

Well Best Buy is already selling cubes here for $100 CAD, which is about $75 US at current exchange . I'm thinking about building a Gamecube array... It would have untold dark power!

Edit: Now it's down to $80 CAD for a Gamecube at BB/Future Shop (owned by BB), I dunno what's up with the firesale but that's like ~$55-60 USD. So very cheap...

I don't see the PS2 going to $99 either, but if it happens, Microsoft is not going to let the X-box be the most expensive console.

Perhaps $150 for both? $130?

Well, I for one would fully support a console price war. I still haven't picked up a Ps2, but if it ever came to $100 CDN I might just have to so I can play FFX all the way through.
