Well I went to demo my system today to an old friend but something looked horribly wrong with the picture from my Toshiba RPTV. After making sure it wasn't the cable I pulled the screen off to find the red gun was not firing...anyone know how much it will cost to replace a gun?

A couple of thoughts. The only prices I have ever read for replacing guns were for the Mits models, and they were relatively high ($350 to $475, after the labor costs for the install).

Even worse, many strongly recommend that, unless your set is very, very new, that ALL THREE guns be replaced at the same time (otherwise, you have one very bright one, and two dim ones). The CRTS are gradually getting dimmer over the lifespan of the entire set. The quoted estimates for all three guns being replaced (that I read, again this was for Mits) were usually $1100 to $1400.

Now, to put this all in perspective. How old is that set? Have you been running it with the contrast turned way, way up? If it is not that old, I would hope for the possibility that it is NOT the red CRT, and that some other propblem is merely causing the gun not to "fire up." Remember, there are electronic connections between that power supply and the CRT which can fail. We can hope...

Bruce its been well taken care of and never in touch mode so that should not be the reason it failed. I had thought about getting all replaced but we'll have to see what the cost is vs a new set...though this one isn't all that old really (5-6 years)
