Awesome news! I'd imagine that R1 will get a 3-disc set around that time to.

I can't wait, you've just made my day :D

According to the episode listing, the original pilot film is NOT included. Hopefully, it will be included as a special feature and the full specs will be confirmed soon.

It would be a real shame if it's not included. The pilot is featured in syndicated reruns as a two-part episode retilted "Backlash of the Hunter". I'd rather have it included in its two-part version than not at all. I don't see any reason Universal would not include it in some form.

Yeah, Rich, I could always buy a multi-standard DVD player. But forget the Region #s.
It works by electrical formats: NTSC, PAL, and SECAM. :)

Jeff, not sure I follow you there with eletrical...
Most multi region players are multi TV (NTSC/PAL) standard
as well and some also converts PAL to NTSC and vice versa.
So, even if your display doesn't handle PAL, it shouldn't
be a big deal.
Well, hopefully these sets will be available in R1/NTSC also soon.

I have a Panasonic DVD recorder that is an NTSC unit. Bought it in February 2003. It was an inexpensive unit, and doesn't have a lot of features other than Time Slip, Commercial Skip, and Finalize (so it can play in other DVD players). Do you think it would be able to play European discs recorded in the PAL format, Rickard?

Jeff, probably not with a DVD-recorder.
Some JVC and Pioneer units, such as the DV-578A, are a safer bet.

Phillips DVP642 plays can be made region free by pressing 7,8,9,ok,0 with the tray open, it converts PAL to NTSC, there are others though. I wil be getting these on import later on if no news of US release seems forthcoming, good series to look into Blake's 7 and Robin of Sherwood if you import.

Play.com has posted that Season 2 is being released on November 14. That's less than three months after Season 1. Where the heck is the R1 announcement?

Well, I just received my R2 box set today and YES, the pilot, Backlash of The Hunter, is included!!
It is there as a two-parter, very nice indeed.
In total, there are 25 episodes even though the packaging
says 22 episodes which means that they count the two-part
episodes as one. (Pilot, This case Is Closed, Profit and Loss).
Nice surprise, I must say... :)

Region free players will almost all convert PAL to NTSC for playback on standard US TV sets. Tons of cheap players can convert PAL to NTSC out of the box, but you usually have to find a remote code on the net to make them region free. You can get started for under $50; less than the price of importing a "Rockford Files" set from the UK!

Anybody know why this was released on R2 first, with no R1 release in sight?

Could it be because the USA branch are slowing down on classic show releases a bit in favour of new show releases atm?

I'm not sure why it hasn't been released here yet, but seeing as Season 2 has already been announced over there, I think the R1 release is LONG overdue!!
Come on Universal, don't forget about the Classics...
Which reminds me, where is Simon & Simon??:frowning:
