Remote IR Sensor Question (1 Viewer)

My father has a Harman Kardon AVR 230 receiver which sits in a fully enclosed cabinet. I'm looking for something to allow him to use his remote control with the cabinet doors shut. I came across the Harman Kardon HE 1000 External Infrared Remote Sensor for $100. I know there are other manufacturers that offer similar solutions, but I was wondering if there is a cheaper way to do this. The unit currently has an 1/8" remote IR sensor input on the rear panel. Any help would be appreciated.

This solution isn't any cheaper, but it's extremely easy so set up, seems much more flexible than the HK item, and you can control up to 8 separate components. I've used it more than once.

You don't even need anything that fancy. All you need is an I/R repeater. Kits can easily be had for under $50 on amazon or your local BB/CC.
