Denon Introduces New Hi-Fi Stereo Network Receiver

The DRA-800H Blends Denon’s Legacy of Hi-Fi with an Advanced HDMI Video Section, Voice-Controllable Wireless Music and Traditional Audio Capabilities

VISTA, Calif. (June 18, 2019) — Today Denon®, a leading manufacturer of premium home entertainment and personal audio products since 1910, announced its first stereo network receiver with wireless music streaming and 4K HDMI capabilities, the DRA-800H. Featuring a newly designed L/R symmetric stereo power amplifier design, the Hi-Fi stereo receiver delivers superb audio fidelity from a variety of sources—including wireless music, CD and phono—while a full-featured HDMI section with 4K Ultra HD support offers the latest 4K and HDR video pass-through capability, ARC (audio return channel) and the full suite of custom installer features including smart remote management.

“Designed for the two-channel music enthusiast that wants the power, precision and detail found in Denon amplifiers without having to compromise on AV features such as 4K HDMI,” said Michael Greco, senior director, global brand management at Sound United. “The DRA-800H truly leverages both Denon’s HiFi heritage and AV receiver technical leadership, offering a mixture of dedicated Hi-Fi amplification, circuitry and carefully selected components to easily drive a two-channel listening system alongside an advanced HDMI suite that supports full 4K Ultra HD 60Hz video with ARC.”

High-Performance Power-Amplifier and Pre-Amplifier Section & Hi-Res Playback

Using the design principles and Hi-Fi components found in Denon’s award-winning amplifiers, Denon sound engineers carefully crafted the DRA-800H with custom resistors and audio grade capacitors to ensure pristine fidelity. The newly design power-amplifier section features a L/R symmetrical design and Denon custom capacitors. With an Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) winding power transformer for better tonal quality, the DRA-800H delivers 100 watts per channel (8ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, THD: 0.08%, 2ch driven). Featuring double differential DAC circuitry, audio grade components and short signal path PCB layouts, the pre-power amplifier section helps reduce unwanted signal noise and achieve higher audio quality. With low impedance driver capability, the DRA-800H offers greater stability with a wide range of floor-standing and bookshelf loudspeakers for balanced, quality sound.

Boasting AKM 32-bit D/A converters, the DRA-800H features high-resolution audio decoding with multiple lossless file types, including ALAC, FLAC and WAV at up to 24-bit/196 kHz. It’s also compatible with 2.8/5.6-MHz DSD files (DSD is the audio coding format of SACD). Access content from memory devices via the front panel USB, or over network sources. The stereo network receiver also supports other file types like MP3 and WMA.

Advanced HDMI Video Section

Enjoy movies, shows and games with the best picture quality available. The DRA-800H features five HDMI inputs and one output, which support 4K Ultra HD 60Hz video, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR10), Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), 3D, and BT.2020 pass-through support for exceptional color, clarity and contrast. HDCP 2.3 processing is available on all HDMI ports, enabling users to enjoy copy-protected content. An HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC) port also enables seamless transmission of audio directly from a smart TV to the receiver through the connected HDMI cable.

Effortless Voice Control

The DRA-800H works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Josh.ai and Apple Siri. Listeners can use Amazon Alexa for a variety of commands, including switching inputs for different media players, while the Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri can be used to adjust the volume, skip to the next track, and more[1].

HEOS Built-in for Multiroom Music Listening

HEOS Built-in enables seamless wireless multi-room music streaming across compatible HEOS components from a variety of free and premium streaming services, including Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, TuneIn, iHeart Radio, Sound Cloud, SiriusXM, Tidal and more.

Denon Award-winning Setup Assistant

The DRA-800H Quick Start Guide provides simple, clear instructions to get started. Once connected to a TV via HDMI, the industry-leading Denon Setup Assistant walks users through a step-by-step set up process for simple installation.

A Smart Solution for CI (Custom Installers)

Designed for easy integration and support, the DRA-800H offers IP control capability for major third-party control devices and Control4 SDPP (Simple Device Detection Protocol) certification for integration with Control4 home automation equipment. The receiver also features an IR (infrared) remote control jack on the rear panel for remote control. The compatibility with major remote monitoring and management services (Domotz Pro, ihiji Invision and OvrC) is offered for custom integrators to help reduce downtime of the system.

Interesting product. I wonder how much demand there is for a two channel receiver with video switching.
