Record VCR tapes to DVD? (1 Viewer)

Hi
I have just purchased a Sony GX300 and want to convert old VHS and Hi8 tapes to DVD. Is there any benefit from using the 1 hour record setting for the VHS tapes or is it a waste given the info available from VHS? What about for Hi8?
Can anyone recommend whether or not to use the block noise reduction, or play with the video equalizer?
Can I record in progressive mode?

If you're purchasing a DVD Recorder for purely converting VHS to DVD then you may want to consider this $99 unit from HP. It's a stand alone VHS-to-DVD unit with the VHS and DVD recorder built in. It's probably the simplest and least expensive solution if VHS-to-DVD is your only concern.
