.....do I still have to worry about it damaging my tv at all? I've got a Sony speaker on the top of my set but it's never caused any discoloration. Can the speaker hurt the tv even if i'm not seeing any problems? Thanks.

Generally no ... but aren't center speakers shielded anyway?

What you have to worry about is the weight of the speaker deforming the top of the TV.

No, this isn't a designated "center channel". I bought a Sony home theater in a box a couple years ago and I still use the speakers. They're next on my upgrade list. :)

So, i've got 5 sattelite speakers and they are all identical.

Satellites, at least those made within the last several years, are pretty much always shielded too. You're probably fine.
