Can't vouch for the DVD quality, but the film is pretty bad. Chaplin had really lost touch with his audience long before this film came out. It isn't funny, there is no chemistry between Brando and Loren, the writing is horribly banal, and it takes a herculean effort to sit through it. I saw it theatrically when first released. It produced in me the sort of disappointment I felt when I saw Hitchcock's TORN CURTAIN so soon after PSYCHO and THE BIRDS. But more so. Dreadful, insuffarable effort. Such a sad swansong for a great artist.
