Newbie-hooking pc to stereo (1 Viewer)

I am completely new to this HTPC stuff. I want to start by just hooking up computer to stereo to play music and streaming radio. What is good low cost audio card to use for this. I would like to hook up optical cable from pc to stereo. Is this a better sound option?

I would eventually like to venture into the full HTPC experience when I gain more knowledge. Any help would be appreciated. I looked at FAQ for this forum and AVS forum but would like to find a newbie area so I can ask questions without bothering the more experienced bunch.

I would like to hook up optical cable from pc to stereo.

Optical/coax digital they're both nice. If stereo is all you want any card with the digital out of your choice will do fine. Do you want to do 5.1? Is your PC near your HT?

Yes the pc will be near the HT.
