Hi Everyone,

I recently acquired the following 5.1 speaker setup below. It came with an old Yamaha receiver that does not have any HDMI inputs. I am in need of help choosing a new receiver that would meet my needs. I have a computer desktop tower hooked up via HDMI from the graphics card output directly to my Sony LED. I now want everything to run through my new receiver. Please help!

Subwoofer: RW-10 http://www.klipsch.c...rw-10-subwoofer

Surround: RS-25 http://www.klipsch.c...urround-speaker

Front: RF-15 http://www.klipsch.c...tanding-speaker

Center: RC-25 http://www.klipsch.c...-center-speaker

Thanks everyone!

Room is something like 15'x25' at most. Just trying to decide what to spend on a receiver? Will I benefit spending $600 vs $300? Any specific models that you recommend?

What features you want?

Bluetooth?
Internet apps?
Remote to control the rest of the setup?
Preouts?
2nd HDMI output?
Zone 2? 3?

What are you hooking up?

Wii/VHS?
Cassette deck
CD player?
Computer?
Chromecast?
DVD player?
BD player?
Roku/ATV?
Turntable?

I don't need anything fancy. Bluetooth would be nice, but not required.

This will be used to connect my computer through HDMI (graphics card) and the TV.

That is pretty much it.

I have an old Yamaha RX-V640, but then I would have to connect everything through component cables. HDMI to component for the computer input and component and optical to the TV. Which I am assuming I dont want to mess with mixing signals right?

What is wrong with your old Yamaha receiver? I have a Pioneer VSX D711 which I bought specifically because it didn't have HDMI. HDMI is great if you only want one wire for audio and video but you can get just as good a result in my opinion with component video and optical or coaxial audio. HDMI was developed as a copyright protection connector but the old connectors give me just as go a quality as HDMI did which I tried and had nothing but problems with because of handshake issues. If your receiver has a couple of composite ins and an out to the tv and either one optical and one coaxial for audio then try it. I have great surround sound and the composite give great color balance with the red green blue connectors. I am sure some gurus in this forum would disagree with me on this but what have you got to lose if you try it before buying a new expensive receiver.

I have narrowed it down to the Denon AVR-S710W and the Yamaha RX-V667. Both are pretty much the same price. Which would be a better purchase?
