As many of you know, I'm having surgery Wednesday (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...nder+the+knife), so I'll need plenty of good movies around to watch in the aftermath. The way my Netflix queue works outs, I'll be able to get 3 or 4 of the following movies through in the next week:
-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
-The Insider
-Donnie Brasco
-Casino
-Mean Streets
-The Untouchables
-Raging Bull
-Spartacus
-The Deer Hunter
Out of those movies, which 3 or 4 would you reccomend?

I would definitely get Raging Bull.

Also check out:
The Untouchables
Spartacus
The Deer Hunter

Surgery, huh? Then maybe you should try out...
Anatomie
It's a German horror film about evil surgeons performing unpleasant experiments on conscious patients with no anaesthetic... or maybe you might want to pass on this film...:D
Sorry about that, just kidding around... good luck with the surgery.

I will recommend an inspirational film, THE AVENGERS as this movie is so bad you will find strength to get out of the hospital to keep from having to view the movie.

On a serious note, I'd pick the following:

Spartacus
Casino
The Deer Hunter
Raging Bull

I haven't seen the films on your list, or at least entirely, so I'll give this suggestion:
Watch Gone With The Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, Ben-Hur, Intolerance (the Blackhawk version is about 200 minutes long!), Barry Lyndon, The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Spartacus, Woodstock, The Ten Commandments, and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World back-to-back.
By the time you're done, you'll be well. :D

Go with Barbi Benton in Hospital Massacre, Lee Grant in Visiting Hours and the 'hospital as a slaughterhouse' classic Halloween 2. ;)
Of the titles you mentioned, my three picks would be The Untouchables, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Raging Bull. Or if you want my Wild Card pick...get The Great Train Robbery.
If you're going to be bedridden for a while, perhaps a few loooooooong movies would help while away the time. Stuff like Once Upon a Time in America, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World or - oooh... Ken Burns' Baseball! Mmmmmmm, baseballlllll.
Regardless of which movies you opt to convalesce to, I wish you a pain-free and speedy recovery!

Andrew-
Nice to see that out of the movies you listed, Robert De Niro is in five of them! And three were directed by Martin Scorsese! :emoji_thumbsup:
If you haven't seen Raging Bull, that is a must. Best acting performance ever put on film, in my opinion.

Although I haven't seen the DVD, I have heard that The Deer Hunter is one of the WORST DVDs ever made, in terms of picture quality. It is a great movie, however. I have only seen it once, and that was on VHS about 7 or 8 years ago.
I would recommend these three:
The Insider
Spartacus, Criterion Collection
Raging Bull
