Shaqn, correct. To get the necessary amount of oxygen into the engine for the combustion cycle to be self-sustaining, you need to be moving and moving FAST. That compresses the air in the engine and allows the necessary oxygen levels to produce the exhaust.
As for the B-52, that's one hell of a design. that said, it's a B-52 is fuselage only, that design has pretty much been completely gutted and replaced as far as avionics, engines, etc. go. Even still, it's pretty remarkable. The AF got their money's worth on that plane design, no questions asked.
