Yes, I agree with Josh that Hereditary was truly awful. Given the positive reviews on RT I was hoping for an intelligent horror flick, but....no. But thanks to mp at least I only paid a buck or so to see it. Still, a solid waste of a dollar and two plus hours. The movie just went on and on. Good cast did the best they could with what they had on the page, but....yikes.

Pretty much every half way decent horror movie that plays at film festivals ends up getting praised as the greatest movie since something from the 1970's but I attribute alot of that to critics basically bragging that they've gotten to see a good movie and you haven't.

That being said, I thought Hereditary was pretty good. Granted, it was much too long but I found it deeply disturbing. It was nice to see a horror movie that didn't rely on LOUD noises and jump scare after jump scare to create suspense. And based on people loudly saying that it sucked & people immediately heading for the exit when the credits rolled, I will say that the crowd I was in seemed to hate it overall.

I saw Hereditary yesterday and it was so bad I wanted to walk out. I kept hoping it would get better, but nope. By the end of the movie all I could think about was what I wanted to grab at the supermarket to cook for dinner.

I did this one Friday night and really enjoyed it, though I can see how it can go either way. It's not torture porn or really gratuitous, which I appreciated; the comparison to The Exorcist is a bit overplayed, IMO.

Also did Upgrade on Saturday. An interesting concept which we've seen before. There isn't much new in the story, but I was drawn to the production design. And, I'll be honest, a dystopian future movie usually gets me. Am I happy I saw it? Yep. Do I need to see it ever again? Probably not.

Interesting note: I needed to send a photo of only one ticket stub this weekend. I found that strange.

That's sorta weird... so, there's going to be a version of the family plan, but each member of the family has to have their own unique account and pay their own membership fee, but the app will let you check-in everyone at once and put the tickets on only one of the cards? That doesn't seem like a huge help. Granted, I'm fine with my single-person account, but I'm not sure what benefit this offers, other than at the select few theaters that allow you to purchase directly through the MP app.

I would think people interested in a family plan would want one so that they didn't have to have multiple accounts, multiple log-ins, multiple cards to juggle. I suppose this does make it easier to check-in everyone at once and to buy, say, four tickets at a kiosk on one credit card instead of having to buy one ticket four times, but was that really the big hassle? I would think the hassle would be having to maintain multiple accounts.

I would be interested to know more about the proposed "bring a friend" add-on. If it's just the same as the family plan he's talking about, I don't really get the appeal. On the other hand, if they come up with a program that might allow you to say, pay an upcharge to MP to buy two tickets instead of one on a given day, that could be beneficial. But it doesn't sound like that's what it is.

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like they're maybe missing the point of why people would want a family plan option.

Why did you have to pay a buck??

I kind of wish the limitation was just 30 movies a month, rather than one per day, since I sometimes like to do a double feature.

But with evening tickets for a regular 2D show $13.70 and matinees up to $10.95, as long as I use it once each month I'm still coming out ahead of the game.

Before I saw it, I'd heard two opinions: either it was the most unnerving horror movies in years, or it was just awful.

I definitely join you in the latter camp. Not scary at all, tonally all over the place, a plot that you pretty much see coming a mile away, and it just. wouldn't. end.

Lots of moments that were meant to be shocking instead triggered lots of inappropriate laughter in my theater.

There was one truly impactful moment in the film:
When the son swerves to avoid the deer in the road and his younger sister in the backseat gets decapitated by the telephone pole.

The last horror movie to really unnerve me was It Follows four years ago. This was one of the least successful horror movies I've seen. And, again, interminable.

Two this week.

Solo and Incredibles II

Both very good but the short in front of Inc II might have been better then the main feature

There seems to be a huge disconnect between critics and the mainstream audience on this film. At RT, top critics are at 95%, while the audience score is only 57%. Cinemascore is a D+.

Just got in MP'ing Won't You Be My Neighbor?

Man, if this one was eight hours long, I would have been thrilled. I didn't want it to end. Surely the story is edited to remove negative accounts of Mr. Rogers, but I don't care. Based on what was presented, this man was a saint. I managed not to cry until an hour or so in...then I just welled up without thinking about it.

I can't wait to see Won't You Be My Neighbor - I'm hoping I get a chance to check it out within the next week or so.

I used MP on Thursday night for "Tag". I hadn't been interested in the movie based on the trailer, but I had one of those days where I just felt at the end of the day that I wanted to go to the movies, and I didn't care what. That one worked best as far as timing went, so I gave it a try. To my surprise, the movie was far better than the trailer suggested, and while it wasn't the greatest thing in the history of the universe, it was a fun comedy.

On Friday, I used MP for "Ocean's Eight". I really wanted to like this movie, but I was mostly bored with it. The cast is great, but the script doesn't really give them a lot to do. The concept was solid but I wish it had been better written.

I wouldn't have predicted that of those two, that "Tag" would have been the one I liked more.

I wonder if I can just upgrade my current AMC Stubs premier membership to this one?
