I already mentioned this TV movie on the first page, but who does own the DVD rights to "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"? Jeff Goldblum has a mid-season series, "Raines", coming up and this would be a good time for a tie-in. My taped VHS copy is really worned out on this one.
There are countless made for TV movies I'd love to see released on DVD. One I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is "The Night That Panicked America" from 1975 or '76. It was the story of the Mercury Theater broadcast of "War Of The Worlds" on the night before Halloween 1938.
Was looking though the upcoming releases over at DDD - some of the stuff being released ???!??!? Anyway, one title reminded me of a telefilm that I had forgotten that I would love to get ahold of: I Heard the Owl Call My Name (1973) Tom Courtenay
I'll also second The Night That Panicked America (1975). I think the studio lost an opportunity to add that to the Collector's Edition of War of the Worlds - assuming that the same studio owns both items.
Jack the Ripper - Michael Caine/Jane Seymour/Armand Assante
Day One - Story of the first atomic bomb with David Straithern as Oppenheimer and Brian Dennehy as General Groves. Superior in every way to Fat Man and Little Boy
Out of the Darkness - Martin Sheen as the detective who caught the Son of Sam killer.
Miniseries: Noble House
Amerika - ABC's misguided but still entertaining "apology" for airing the "communist propoganda" known as The Day After.
Where Have All the People Gone? (Peter Graves) Trapped (James Brolin) Short Walk to Daylight (James Brolin) Sarah T.--Portrait of a Teen-Age Alcoholic (Linda Blair, Mark Hamill) Sweet Hostage (Linda Blair, Martin Sheen) The Sex Symbol (Connie Stevens) House on Greenapple Road (Janet Leigh) Contract on Cherry Street (Frank Sinatra--can't believe this isn't out!!) Dawn: Portrait of a Teen-Age Runaway (Eve Plumb) Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn (Leigh J. McCloskey) Why Me? (Glynnis O'Connor--an unforgettable performance) Something Evil (Sandy Dennis, directed by Spielberg for cryin out loud) A Howling in the Woods (Barbara Eden, Larry Hagman) The Stranger Within (Barbara Eden) Let's Switch (Barbara Eden, Barbara Feldon--this could even be a 99 cent thing and I'd buy it) Third Girl From the Left (Kim Novak, Tony Curtis) Linda (Stella Stevens--not the remake please!!) Crowhaven Farm (Hope Lange--and one of THE scariest TV movies I've ever seen)
One thing I wish they could include that I'm so pissed they don't:
The original network Movie-of-the-Week animated intros. One of the casualties of the 1990s commercial increase, it's hard not to get the jingles stuck in your head, not to mention the animation that evokes the styles of their respective time periods.
I agree matthew, I loved the ABC Saturday Night Suspense Movie, with the red double lines of the letters starting out like rollercoaster tracks coming at the camera. The Best!! Also the ABC Sunday Night Movie, with the marquee lights. Even if the movie wasn't good, the openings were.
