JVC AV-27F703 anamorphic widescreen? (1 Viewer)

I just bought this tv and really like it. I did have a question though. On JVC's website it says that the tv has a 16x9 anamorphic dvd mode. I am confused about this. I thought that you had to have a progressive scan dvd player and an hdtv to take advantage of anamorphic widecreen. Can anyone clarify this?

16:9 Anamorphic DVD Mode - allows playback of Anamorphic DVD's in their correct Aspect Ratio. Overall scanning process does not include black bars on the top or bottom of the screen providing higher resolution. You don't need a progressive DVD player.You will need a DVD player that has component outputs.
