Looking for a gift for my son where he can plug his iPod (docking station) into a tube based amp. Any suggestions and prices?

would it be ok if its a tube pre and a SS power section?

Sure. It's mainly for Christmas and he'd likely use it in his office. It's more of a coolness factor hence the need for a docking stations where he can sit it into.
