Hope your interview went well Dome.
Thanks. Part of me says I spoke my heart, and I did well. The other part can't help but scrutinize every stupid thing I might've said.
John Wayne wins 6 - 5
James Stewart wins 7 - 4
Humphrey Bogart wins 9 - 1
Toshiro Mifune wins 7 - 3
Bracket Two, Round Two
North
1. Alfred Hitchcock
vs.
8. James Coburn
South
1. Billy Wilder
vs.
9. Marlene Dietrich
East
1. Orson Welles
vs.
8. Claude Rains
West
1. David Lean
vs.
8. Rock Hudson
Personal Opinion: I'm going the directors' route on this one, especially Lean. He lost a good fifteen years because of Pauline Kael. And yes, I do think it's her fault.
Cutoff: March 11, 2003, 08:00 EST
I will be gone from Tuesday through Friday, but hopefully my friend in Lexington has an Internet connection I can use.

Alfred Hitchcock I like Coburn's work a lot but can't vote against Hitch.
Billy Wilder Very easy, one of the greatest directors against an actress I've never cared for.
Claude Rains This was the tough one. Hard to vote against a great director and excellent actor in Welles. But Rains was very possibly the greatest character actor in film and would grace many more films than Welles.
David Lean See Hitchcock vote above.

F.W. Murnau

The next 3 are virtually impossible decisions

Carl Th. Dreyer
Judy Garland (could be the other way if I'd seen more than 2 Renoir films)
Gene Kelly (my favorite classic Hollywood star. Just imagine him in Chicago)
