a plug in the ceiling or extension cord inside the drywall?
Any thoughts or experiences appreciated!

Todd,
I used a plug in in my ceiling, but I ran that cable to my equipment rack and plugged it into my line conditioner. This way the power was pure and it had surge protection.

If you are going to run through drywall, try to do it according to the code. I used an extension cord in my old setup with a drop ceiling but in my current setup, I had a ceiling outlet wired in directly from the circuit box.
