I want to buy this movie but the case doesn't make the movie very appealing. It does have a DD soundtrack and is in widescreen but it looks rather sparce. I was wondering if they were planning on releasing a new version of it in the vein of the new Mad Max movie. If anyone has it or knows anything about it please let me know.

An SE is inevitable, but I don't think one has been announced.

The current disc looks fine, though the transfer reveals a somewhat dated appearance--flesh tones are a bit plugged up and the image is wanting in clarity in places. Color saturation is better than any other home-video release, and the sound, though a little screechy at times, is good enough.

Don't let the spartan cover put you off. If you love the film, this is what we have and, as such, it's worth purchasing.

I just got done watching it. I liked it although what other people said about the transfer looking dated is true IMO. With Mad Max just being rereleased I am sure there will be SE editions of Road Warrior and Thunderdome coming out shortly.

A recent VHS release included a "Making of" featurette, so there is good reason to believe that an SE is not far off. Although Warner Brothers has dissaponted me FAR too much in recent history with their half hearted releases.

A Road Warrior SE was announced about 2 years ago then postponed indefinitely. If u like the movie buy it. Since its a WB title, I often see it for $14.

My only problem with the existing disc is that the one scene that takes place at night...when Max is setting out from the refinery to find the abandoned truck...
...is very dark on my setup, to the point where I can hardly see what's going on.
Mind you, it's still far better than the washed-out look that that scene had on the VHS rental copies I used to watch back in the 1980s.
